MARCEL BREUER - DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE, Coruña - Spain.
The Pedro Barrié de la Maza Foundation presents the Spanish première of the exhibition Marcel Breuer. Design and Architecture, organised by the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein. Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) is considered to be one of the twentieth century’s major furniture designers and interior architects.
The tubular steel furniture created by Breuer during his Bauhaus period form part of those works of the Modern Movement that have earned the distinction of classics. Despite universal acclaim as one of the most influential designers of the last century, Marcel Breuer thought of himself primarily as an architect. This exhibition brings together 51 pieces of furniture and 13 interactive models of projects for houses, residential and office buildings and otherlarge-scale projects designed between 1940 and 1970, including the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the IBM Resource Centre in La Gaude (France), and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, illustrating a continuous expansion and refinement of the vocabulary of the International Style.
